This project was a unique collaboration between designers, artists and sculptors where every room and every piece of furniture was custom designed and carefully crafted. The hotel is based on concepts and ideologies from Indian art history and philosophy. The three floors of the hotel are themed around the three Gunas: Sattvik, Rajsik and Tamsik. Each of the 16 rooms is differently themed around some aspect of Indian art history.
We had the opportunity to work on a few spaces in the hotel. The reception area is based on the concept of the Kundalini. The Kundalini is the divine energy that lies dormant in the root chakra and is often represented as a coiled snake. One guest room on the Tamsik floor is themed around the concept of Maya or illusion, expressed with an art installation which depicts fragmentation due to loss of unity and focus. Another room on the Rajsik floor is based on Dyutta, or gambling in Indian history, which was an essential part of Rajsik life. The rooms has elements inspired by Pacheesi, chess, ganjifa cards which are put together in a contemporary expression of the Indian idea of grandeur and decadence.
