The Brief & Design Approach
The brief was to design the reception & studio for Indoasian, a middle of the pyramid, Indian electrical brand. The approach is based on the concepts of ‘Glocal Indoasian’ and ‘Frugal Engineering’, both of which are intrinsic to the brand and its products.
Glocal Indoasian
“Indian/ Homegrown with a global presence”
The Indian aspect of the identity has been expressed in the space with an Ikat inspired pattern that is derived from the logo, and the use of red and yellow which is a very Indian colour combination (haldi kumkum). This is set against a very clean minimal design language that is neutral and contemporary.
Frugal Engineering
This concept has been expressed in the space via raw exposed material choices such as direct prints on cement board and ply. The space is also visualised as a ‘Functional Framework’ which holds the space together visually and is also a communication tool.
